What is QuietSpace?

4b. Element - Roman, Gold.png

QuietSpace was founded in 2017 by Maria Therese Jessen Petersen with the vision of bringing meditation and Japanese inspired tatami rooms – which are commonly used for contemplative practices, such as mediation – into the hearts of organisations to support employee wellbeing and self care practices at work.

Through QuietSpace, we offer 1:1 meditation coaching for individuals, 1 to team sessions for companies, weekly morning meditation sessions for founders, yearly retreats for young founders, feminine wisdom retreats and afterhour sangha. We also design and implement QuietSpace rooms within organisations. QuietSpace is more than a room for meditation — it’s a space to find balance, pause and reconnect.

Who is Maria Therese Jessen Petersen?

Interior designer by trade and a certified mindfulness meditation facilitator by heart.

I am on a journey to live a simpler, more meaningful life — less noise, more presence. In 2017, I founded QuietSpace to create spaces where individuals and organisations can step back, listen deeply, and lead with wisdom and heart. This work requires practice, courage, and intention — slowing down to access our innate stillness within. Meditation has profoundly transformed my life. Designing and holding space for others to experience stillness and peace in a fast-paced world is both a privilege and a sacred gift.

In January 2024, I became a certified mindfulness and meditation teacher after completing the two-year mindfulness and meditation teacher certification program with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield. My meditation journey began in 2015, leading me to attend numerous courses and immersive retreats in mindfulness, meditation, and other contemplative practices. I continue to deepen my practice through daily meditation, regular mentoring, and participation in a weekly Sangha. To me, meditation is not separate from my life — life itself is the practice.

Before founding QuietSpace, I worked in interior design, studying at Parsons School of Design in New York and Paris. In 2003, I launched TEATIME, Copenhagen's first chain of tea parlors, which played a key role in shaping the city's tea culture.

Born in Ethiopia, I have spent most of my life outside of Denmark, drawing inspiration from diverse cultures and traditions.
